9 Tips To Travel More With A Full Time Job

7 Continents, 12 Countries in One Year – Yes, it is Possible
If we get a penny for every time someone asks us how you get to Travel so much with a full time Job, we would be Millionaire.7 continents, 12 countries in One Year, sounds impossible? But it isn’t. If we can, you can as well.
So how do we do this?

Travelling around the Globe has always been our priority. Everything from our lifestyle and career choices to sorting our finances has all been driven by our desire to travel. Not all Job types are same and what works for some may not work for others. So here are some tips which have worked out for me and my partner over years and hopefully will work for you

1) Make Travelling Your Priority
If you really love Travelling, it will naturally become your Priority. And once Travel is your priority, your every decision in life will revolve around Travelling. Be it working extra hours to get compensatory off or cutting off unnecessary expenses to save money to travel.

Travel is to Live

2) Weekend Escape
Sometimes all it takes is 48 to 60 hours to explore a new place. Take flight after your work on Thursday (we live in Dubai and our weekend is Friday & Saturday) and back on Sunday morning and head straight to office. Choose a place within 3 to 4 hours of flying time and whoa, you come back refreshed without using any of your annual leave.

3) Explore Your Own Backyard
You would be utterly amazed at what you can find close to your own hometown. Camping overnight, picnic by the beach, go zip lining, wake boarding or sometimes just pamper yourself with a stay-cation.

4) Add on to Your Work Trip
Fortunately, my job helps me to travel. Every time I have a business trip, I add extra 2 nights (mostly weekends) and I am able to explore the nearby places. This not only helps me in not taking any official days off but also helps me in avoiding the biggest expense of any trip – flight tickets.

5) Take All Your Annual Leave
It sounds pretty straight forward but then I have so many friends who do not use all their holidays. Making the decision to spend (I call it INVEST) the money, asking your boss for leave approval, and stepping away from other responsibilities can get difficult at times. But you can’t go if you don’t do it.

You will be never as young as you are today. So make the most of it. Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro

6) Plan in Advance
When you have limited vacation days in a year, you need to make sure you make the most out of your every single holiday. Look at your calendar and plan your trips in advance – you’ll be able to ask for days off from work before anyone else in your Team. I hope my coworkers are not reading this! .This will help you get approval from your boss and it is also easier to apply for longer days off if applied much in advance.
Clearly, planning in advance will also help you buy cheaper air fare and tours.

7) Travel to Offbeat Places during Peak Holidays
During Peak Holidays – Christmas, New Year, Eid, or Diwali – it will be hard to find cheap tickets even when you try booking 6 months in advance. Also even if you manage to buy expensive tickets, the place itself will be overpriced and over-crowded. In such times we try avoid going to touristic places like Paris, London, New York and instead travel to offbeat places.
We travelled to Ethiopia during New Year 2017 and paid a regular price for Airfare and the tour.

8) Club Public Holidays to Travel to Nearby Places
We always, I repeat… WE ALWAYS club Public holidays with Weekend to make a 4 to 5 days Escape or 9 Days Escape. Never waste a long weekend by not travelling!
This helps us in saving our annual days off for a long vacation.

9) Travel Alone
There are times when your holidays are not aligned with your partner or friends. Don’t be afraid to Travel Alone.
I took a  solo trip to Mount Elbrus when my partner couldn’t take time off from work.

As I finish writing this article, I recall Mark Twain famous quote,
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

  1. As someone who also has a full-time day job, this is really good advice. I always tell people to use all of their vacation time. That’s what it’s there for!

  2. What great tips for travelers. I hear so many excuses as to why people can’t travel, but it is all bull!! I think travel is so important, and more people need to make it happen!!!

  3. totally agree with everything in this post 🙂 I’m also working full time and I’m always finding ways to travel and tagging extra trips on to my work trips… for many people, it’s not about money, but prioritizing!

  4. Those are such great tips! If you don’t prioritize traveling surely you’ll never leave the comforts of your home. I totally agree with traveling solo, sometimes it’s easier to make it happen on your own than waiting on others!

  5. Awesome tips! I do pretty much all of these:) I haven’t visited any offpeak destinations during peak holidays though, because I usually want to spend them with my family or close friends! The Devil’s Pool looks really dangerous and exhilarating! I would be so scared of falling right down the waterfall…All your photos are super stunning though:) Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks so much Helen. You are very kind. family time is the best time. and devils pool is crazy I was shit scared too 🙂

  6. I totally agree – I also have full time job and it’s all about prioritizing. I feel I travel a lot (when I compare with my colleagues) but I could do more 🙂 I took 2 months unpaid leave to follow my dream and travel to Russia so good organization skills are essential.

I love some of your trip and will explore more of it – did you climb Elbrus? Ethiopia is also on my bucket list!!!! ahh

LOVE YOUR BLOG and… all of you outfits btw 😀

    1. Thanks so much. 🙂 yeh I climbed Elbrus and mount Kilimanjaro too. I love hiking. Ethiopia is surreal. you must visit at least once. Thanks once again I have a thing for travel fashion <3

  8. Fantastic tips! If you love travelling, you’ll find time to travel. I’m fairly lucky as I freelance, so I travel once my contract ends. I do need to do more staycations though!

  9. These are some really good tips and they are really economical. You are lucky you get to add 2 extra day on your business travels to explore the country too. Zambia looks amazing. def agree on exploring nearby countries too.

    1. Thanks so much Bee. Zambia is so beautiful. You must plan it. Feel free to contact us in case of any planning related details. 🙂

  10. This is a great post, you guys are almost the opposite to me, as I’m a full time traveler who works to fill in the gaps haha. However I know what you mean about people asking how you do it. As your post shows, you don’t need to just be like me, you can have a full time job and still travel the world. I’m always saying there is nothing stopping anybody from traveling how they want like myself sell everything and travel full time and work to supplement your travels or like you work full time and make traveling a priority. I feel like people that say they wish they could travel, are the ones that look for excuses in not to travel. Everybody can travel and will find a way if they really want to. Very inspirational post 😀

  11. Your tips sound amazing, Doing 12 countries and 7 continents in a year wow, would truly love to follow your ideas. Travelling to off beat destination during Peak season is always a great idea. Thanks for sharing this post 🙂

genuinely benefit from a lot of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this okay with you.

  27. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the layout of your website?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little
more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
